The State Archives are a public institution and accessible for free. You do not have to make an appointment or book a seat.

  • Reception:
    At the first visit of a calendar year, fill in a visitor's card at the reception, indicating your particulars and the topic of your research. You will then receive an electronic access card (badge) for the reading rooms against a deposit of CHF 20.
    There are lockers in the foyer for your briefcases, bags, rucksacks, laptop covers as well as coats and jackets.
    The use of mobile phones or eating and drinking are only permitted in the foyer. Smoking is strictly prohibited in the entire building.
  • Advisory service:
    The advice desk will discuss your request with you and will help you with your search for the right documents on your topic. It will also process orders. The advisory team will be glad to help with the handling of technical devices and with the research in the open-access sections.
  • Reading rooms:
    There are five different rooms at your disposal for the consultation of documents
